Champions crowned Baidoo’s double seals Hartpury’s title

-

KING Baidoo scored twice as Hartpury University clinched the Hellenic League Division One title with a 4-0 win at Moreton Rangers on Friday night.

Louis Manning and an own goal completed the win for Martin Longworth’s side, giving them an unassailable lead at the top.

They were also in action on Monday, with a much-changed side, with 10 league debuts handed out, drawing 1-1 with FC Stratford, Billy Osborn on target.

Elsewhere, Newent Town climbed away from trouble at the bottom with a 5-1 win at Kidlington Reserves on Tuesday, Tyler Weir scoring twice, with Mateusz Klich, Sam Whitton and Brad Phillips also on target.

Klich was one of two players redcarded on Saturday as the Daffs lost 3-1 to Long Crendon, Ben Lane was also sent off, with George Watkins their goalscorer.

Tytherington Rocks suffered two 4-3 defeats - going down at Stonehouse Town on Saturday and Calne Town on Tuesday.

Nick Humphreys (two), Spencer Martin and Luke Soule netted for the Magpies, who had Rich Thwaite sent off, with Nathan Croot (two) and Kyle Head replying for Rocks.

Rocks then trailed 3-0 at Calne before Toby Waterman scored, then after going 4-1 down debutant Ali Alfadhli and Head made it 4-3.

Also on Tuesday, Shortwood United drew 0-0 with Chipping Sodbury Town.

Cinderford Town, Slimbridge and Fairford Town are in a five-way battle for two Premier Division play-off places.

Slimbridge are fourth after two wins this week, beating Fairford 3-1 on Saturday and Wantage Town on Tuesday.

Shiyak Sutherland scored twice for the Swans against Fairford with Jack Smith getting the other, Joe Shutt with Fairford’s reply.

Sutherland was on target again to seal the win at Wantage, while Fairford, who are fifth, were 2-1 winners over Pershore Town on Tuesday.

Goals from Joah Hall in the 43rd minute and an 85th-minute penalty by Charlie Mccrae saw the Reds come from behind to get the win.

But while Slimbridge and Fairford occupy the play-off spots, the three sides below them, Highworth Town (three points behind), Cinderford Town (four points adrift) and Roman Glass St George (seven points adrift) have all played fewer games.

Cinderford also picked up two wins this week, starting with a 3-2 success over Tuffley Rovers at Gloucester City’s Meadow Park on Saturday.

Craig Norman and Ethan Hayes put Town 2-0 up but Mark Pritchett replied before Andy Lewis’s penalty restored the two-goal lead, however Josh Radford’s goal made for a tense finish.

On Tuesday night, Cinderford went to Thornbury Town and won 2-1.

Ryan Hillier and Charlie Davies put them in the driving seat with first-half goals, Nathan Sage pulling one back, but Cinderford held out.

Thornbury had drawn 1-1 with Highworth on Saturday, Joe Mclaughlin with their goal.

Brimscombe & Thrupp can still mathematically make the play offs with 11 games still to play, but lost 4-0 at third-placed Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Saturday.

Lydney Town are 10 points clear of bottom side Wantage, who have two games in hand, after they went down 3-0 at Westfields on Saturday.

Westfields then faced Tuffley Rovers on Tuesday, the game ending 2-2 with Rovers goals both coming from Karnell Chambers as they led 2-0 before being pegged back.
