Perfect pit stop as pair launch diner in a bus

-

A BUS that used to transport passengers in London has been converted into a food and drink business thanks to an exciting project.

When Amy Jukes, 52, and Annie Brookes, 62, purchased the vehicle last year their ambition was always to serve passing commuters the best local produce.

Now their dream has become reality as they launched the Upper Deck Diner close to Tewkesbury on Tuesday.

Passers-by can treat themselves to an all-day breakfast, jacket potatoes, meals of the day, sandwiches, burgers and a whole lot more. They’ve even taken into account the cost of living by offering a “mini bus breakfast” where one child under 10 eats free per full paying adult eating from the lunch/ breakfast menu.

The bus will be located at a lay-by just off junction one of the M50 along the A38 in the direction of Worcester and Amy and Annie cannot wait to see customers hop onboard and tuck in on the top deck. Collecting the bus near Plymouth in May 2023, both acknowledge that it was a leap of faith but “one we’re excited to do”. “We’ve got a professional kitchen downstairs, good seating upstairs and rather than just being a white box in a layby, we will be an experience in a layby,” they said.

Amy and Annie say thanks goes to Brandon Higgins of Brandon Murals for artwork, RJP Photography for image editing, their partners Stuart Jessop and Nick Brookes for helping to build the bus, Marcus Install for laying the flooring upstairs and many friends and relatives helping with the paintwork.

A special thanks also goes to Astons Coaches (at Defford Mill) for all their help and support to realise the vision with Richard, Mike, Mark, Brian and all the workshop team helping out.
