‘Justice served’ after drink driver jailed for crashing into couple
» AN elderly woman has been left with life-changing injuries after being hit by a drink driver in Evesham.
The driver, a man in his 60s from Gloucestershire, has been jailed and banned from driving after careering into the victim’s car at speed.
Kevin Turner, 65, of Berrington Road, Chipping Campden, was sentenced to 32 months at Worcester Crown Court on March 28, for causing serious injury.
Turner was also given a further fourmonth sentence for drink driving and was banned from driving for more than four years.
At first he refused to accept responsibility for the crash, which happened on Pershore Road, Evesham, known locally as Berry Hill, on April 9, 2022. Turner did not stop for a car that had right of way on a roundabout and hit it at high speed.
An elderly couple travelling in the car were both injured. The woman suffered life-changing injuries.
Lead investigator PC Paul Bosley said the roads policing team were pleased with the conviction. They also added that Turner showed no remorse until he pleaded guilty in February.
PC Bosley said: “Justice was finally served on Thursday when the driver responsible for this crash finally accepted culpability. His poor driving and driving while intoxicated caused this crash and have unfortunately had a major and lasting impact on the innocent victims, involved in this through no fault of their own.
“These are the people that must live this nightmare daily and I am glad the criminal justice system has recognised this and imposed the most correct and appropriate sentence to deal with this driver.
“We hope this sends out a message that driving under the influence devastates lives and will not be tolerated and offenders will be brought to justice.”
