Morgan’s hat-trick puts Town in trophy final

-

KERRY Morgan hit a hat-trick as Cinderford Town booked their place in the final of the GFA Trophy with a 5-2 win over Cheltenham Saracens at Gloucester City’s Tigerturf Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Foresters will face Mangotsfield United after sealing the win with two late Morgan goals after Saracens pulled the game back to 3-2 with seven minutes left.

Charlie Davies opened the scoring on 32 minutes, but Saracens levelled midway through the second half through Louis Peyton.

There was then a flurry of goals, as Morgan and Craig Norman struck after 80 and 82 minutes, but Stu Midwinter pulled one back a minute later for Saracens. However, Morgan had the final say with goals on 88 and 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Foresters’ Hellenic League Premier Division play-off hopes are still alive after they drew 0-0 with Corsham Town on Friday.

Cinderford are a point outside the top five, in seventh, but are in a three-horse race with Highworth Town and Slimbridge for two places.

Fairford Town are out of the running after they lost 2-0 to Thornbury Town in their final league game, which currently leaves them sixth in the table.

Andreas Smolka and Jens Chiedozie Ude scored for Richard Joyce’s side, a win which is a major step in the direction of securing a fourth consecutive season of Premier Division football.

Longlevens sit a place above them after they were beaten 2-0 by Pershore Town.

On Monday, Brimscombe and Thrupp led against Hereford Pegasus through Jack Hughes, but lost 5-1, remarkably conceding three own goals.

Moreton Rangers stay bottom of Division One after Friday’s 4-0 loss to Abingdon United, and they also went down 3-1 to Malmesbury Victoria on Tuesday.

Kyle Head’s goal gave Tytherington Rocks a 1-0 win at Southam United on Monday.
