Shootout delight for Albion as they claim County Cup victory

» BROCKWORTH Albion won a tense penalty shoot-out to lift the GFA Senior Amateur Cup on Tuesday night, coming through 6-5 after a 2-2 draw.

Albion came back from 2-0 down in a game of three red cards, two for Hanham, with Jamie Martin being sent off for Brockworth.

Fergus Jackson pulled a goal back after 66 minutes, then Ash Bird grabbed the 81st-minute leveller, and the first 11 penalties were scored in the shootout before a Hanham miss gave Albion the trophy, Matt Cairns, Jackson, Tim Willetts, Bird, Jimmy Thomas and Jai Maisey neeting for Albion.

Albion also lead the way in the Northern Senior League Division One title race - but five points separate the top five. They lead by a point but have played two games fewer than the chasing pack.

Last Thursday, they lost 2-1 to second-placed Longlevens Reserves, James Barnett and Shiyak Sutherland scoring, Martin replying, and on Saturday, beat Charfield 3-0 thanks to Osamh Abazeid, Cairns and Jackson.

Levens beat fourth-placed Tredworth Tigers on Saturday with a Matt Emmett goal - but slipped to a 1-0 loss to Tewkesbury Town on Tuesday.

Third-placed Chalford, level on points with Levens, beat FC Lakeside 2-0 last Thursday thanks to Ryan Harry and Ben Minnican.

Dursley Town are fifth after beating Smiths Barometric­s3-1 on Thursday with Ben Dolbear (two) and Ashley Caldwell scoring, Thomas Hall replying, and Bredon 4-1 on Saturday with goals from Joel Jagger (two), Hadyn Evans and Fintan Small.

Also on Saturday, Jozef Fullerton, Alex Roder and Matt Tarling scored twice as Tewkesbury Town won 6-0 at Stonehouse Town Reserves, Elliot Roberts’ hat-trick helped FC Lakeside win 4-2 at Lydney Town Reserves, Kieran Alder with the other, Jay Griffiths’ double saw Bibury to a 3-1 at Woolaston, Elliott Greening replying, and English Bicknor drew 1-1 with Berkeley Town.

Division Two leaders Whaddon United won 3-0 at Barnwood United on Saturday with goals from Zack Hodges (two) and Jordan Mitchell, then put six past Cheltenham Civil Service Reserves on Tuesday, Hodges (two), Mitchell, Jed Payton, Riley Butt and Kevin Slack scoring.

Alfie Bradshaw (two) and Travis Cooke helped Rodborough Old Boys beat Service 3-1 on Saturday, Riley Greenwood replying, and third-placed Staunton & Corse won 2-0 at Mushet & Coalway.

Harrow Hill’s promotion hopes took a knock as they lost 5-1 at Viney St Swithins on Tuesday, after beating Falcons 3-1 on Saturday with goals for Mike Baldwin, Matt Boseley and Liam Pinnock, Ciprian Brinca replying.

Dan Carman’s hat-trick gave King’s Stanley a 4-0 win at Chesterton, Adam Harley with the other, and on Tuesday, Lydbrook Athletic won 3-2 over Falcons to maintain their slim promotion hopes.
