If you’ve fallen in love with golf this summer and are keen to improve your game over the winter, these new ultra-forgiving clubs from Callaway could be a very good place to start.

The Big Bertha OS irons incorporate a design that Callaway has called an Exo-Cage. It is a lightweight and strong framework that has allowed Callaway engineers to distribute yet more weight around the edges to increase forgiveness.

The Exo-Cage also helps the face spring more efficiently and closer to the legal limits for more ball speed across the face, boosting distance.

The new construction is joined by a wave-shaped tungsten insert that lowers the centre of gravity (CG) to make it easier for inconsistent players to launch shots higher and further.

Progressive CG positions feature through the set, so weight is moved lower in each head, from the highestlofted to the lowest-lofted, to make the long-irons easier to launch and the short-irons easier to control.

The Big Bertha OS irons will be joined by a matching hybrid that has also been created to offer new levels of forgiveness.

It is longer from heel to toe and deeper from front to back compared to traditional hybrids, which gives you a wider area to make contact and more stability if you do miss the middle of the face.

An aerodynamic crown design then helps improve airflow to ensure the larger head doesn’t come at a cost.

To round out the hybrid, Callaway’s OptiFit hosel lets you choose from eight loft and lie settings to really fine-tune your trajectory and shot shape. Plus, you can alter it as you improve over the season, too, so it always does the job you need it to.

The irons come with True Temper Speed Step 80 steel shafts (RRP £849, seven-piece set) or UST Recoil ES 460 graphite shafts (RRP £1,099) and are on sale from September 30.

The hybrid (£229) has a UST Recoil ES 460 shaft as standard, and comes in 3H (19°) to 7H (31°) lofts.
