CLEVELAND CBX 2 WEDGE £119

-

leveland is renowned as one of the great wedge manufacturers of recent decades, claiming to 'own the short game since 1979'. The CBX 2 is a cavity-back wedge that could help the average amateur get the very most from their shots around the green.

Most club golfers use cavity-back irons, but few will use cavity-back wedges. There may be a perception that only a classic, bladed wedge will deliver the feel and versatility needed for shorter shots, but the CBX 2 demonstrates this is not the case.

Not only does the extra forgiveness assist accuracy on full shots, but across three sole grinds and a wide loft range, there’s more than enough choice to create a set-up that will execute all the shots you need when you miss a green.

CA hollow chamber towards the heel and a heavy weight placed in the toe help maximise MOI in the CBX 2 wedge to improve forgiveness.

With Cleveland’s fourth-generation Rotex Face combining sharp-yet-legal grooves with aggressive face milling, we were impressed by how quickly the CBX 2 got the ball to check up. The feel off the face is great and this is enhanced by a Gelback TPU insert that reduces vibration.

At address, the larger profile inspires confidence, especially on full shots, without looking chunky. The clubhead feels very stable at impact, controlling both direction and distance consistently on slight mishits. The wide sole increases forgiveness on the strike and is especially helpful from the sand, allowing the club to glide rather than dig downwards with minimal interference.

If you lack confidence on pitch and chip shots, the Cleveland CBX 2 wedge could be a gamechanger. With increased forgiveness, we feel it gives you the belief you need to make a positive, aggressive stroke.
