How do I choose the best putter grip?

Phil Wright, via email

As soon as you take your hold on a grip, you will know if you like the feel of it. And the one that feels the best usually performs the best. Consider the shape – does it fit well in your hands, is it easy to get both of your thumbs on and does it suit your particular way of holding the putter? Do you prefer a tacky, spongy material or a firmer type? It is difficult to know until the grip is actually on your putter, so it’s a bit of a punt, but your instinct will be correct in most cases.

How could a new lob wedge help in bunkers? Fraser Tilley, via email Generally, a lob wedge with more bounce (12° or more) will help prevent the clubhead digging down into the sand, keeping speed up and popping the ball out. But be careful, because more bounce can actually hurt you if the sand is wet and compact, or if there simply isn’t much sand in the bunker. This is why I rotate two lob wedges – a high-bounce option with a wider sole for summer and a midbounce option with a slightly narrower sole for the winter period.
