Callaway Big Bertha B21 Range from £229
Callaway claims to have created the perfect driver for the higher handicapper, promising distance through low spin and slice correction while maintaining all-important forgiveness. Low spin via a low and forward centre of gravity and high MOI don’t normally go hand in hand, but Callaway says its use of artificial intelligence (AI), a new face material and Jailbreak has unlocked the extra performance.
The larger, Ai-designed Flash Face SS21 has been made of an extremely strong, heat-treated TA-15 titanium. This allows for the complex architecture created by the computer, which is required to promote optimal speed, forgiveness and spin characteristics. To combat your slice, this driver has reduced face progression to help start the ball further left, lower spin generation to decrease the amount of curvature in the flight and internal heel weighting. Two internal Jailbreak bars connect the sole and crown to promote fast ball speeds.
The Big Bertha B21 fairway wood and hybrid share many of the same technologies as the driver, as well as additional offset to promote a straighter flight. To further enhance launch and trajectory, the hybrids incorporate dual
MIM’ED (Metal Injected Moulding) tungsten weights into the sole.
To make the Big Bertha B21 irons easy to hit, they feature generous offset, wide soles and thick toplines to inspire confidence. A unique Flash Face designed by AI for each individual iron increases speed and spin robustness. A tungsten toe weight centres the CG for forgiveness, while a second visible tungsten weight sits low in the sole and to the rear to increase launch angle. The range goes on sale on September 10 with the following RRPS: driver £449, fairways £279, hybrids £229 and irons £899.
Golfers who struggle with a down-andacross attack angle and strike a large portion of the face, leading to shots with too much spin and a miss to the right. We wanted to mitigate against that by configuring the driver to reduce backspin and sidespin for a straighter ball flight that runs along the fairway, rather than across it.
