What’s In The Bag?

At the start of 2020, Eddie Pepperell signed a multi-year equipment deal with Ping. We asked him to talk through the clubs he chooses from

1 Driver

Ping G410 Plus, 9˚, Mitsubishi Diamana ZF 60TX shaft

My driver is the G410 Plus. It is not the LST version, which has a lowerspinning head. I like to have a bit more spin. It is 9°, set up neutral and there’s no one else to blame but me! I have used a Ping driver for two-and-a-half years so I was very reluctant to move away from that, because historically I had struggled with my driver. I have certainly grown in confidence with it over time and I didn’t want to give that up, so it was a big factor in me moving to Ping.

2 3-wood

Ping G410, 12˚, Mitsubishi Diamana ZF 60TX shaft

I carry my driver around 275, 280 yards, which is, in the world of Bryson, absolutely pathetic, but I have got a really strong 3-wood. I used a Callaway 3-wood for a number of years quite effectively – a strong 13˚ 3-wood that I employed on holes where I wasn’t very comfortable with my driver. Ping has made me this 12˚ 3-wood, which has the same shaft as my driver to keep the continuity in terms of feel. It has not been in the bag longer than a week, but so far, when I have been out on the course, it has been absolutely brilliant.

3 5-wood

Ping G410, 17.5˚, Mitsubishi Diamana BF 70TX shaft

I always like to have two strong options at the top, so that means I have to choose between a 5-wood, a 2-iron or a 3-iron. That will change dependant on the course. This is 17.5˚ and it carries about 250 yards. It goes a lot higher than my 3-wood and it’s quite a versatile club. 3

4 3-iron

Ping i210, Dynamic Gold X100 shaft

The i210 gives me a bit more lift and a bit more flight initially, which is great for a long-iron. With my swing, I don’t have a massive issue getting enough height with my 4-iron but I do with the 3-iron. Anything that can help with that is great.

5 4–PW

Ping iblade, Dynamic Gold X100 shafts

When I moved to Ping, I had the i210s through the bag. The 3-,4- and 5-irons had some offset, which I had never used in my life but I really liked, especially as my miss in the last year has been right. So I said to the guys in America that this is something I want to try and they built me a set. Even my pitching wedge has got some offset in it. I have gone back to the Dynamic Gold X100 shaft, which is what I used through 2017 and as a kid.

6 Wedges

Ping Glide 3.0, 52˚, 56˚ & 60˚ My wedges have got quite a wide sole, but they have managed to shave off the front so I can get the best of both worlds. If it is a tight lie there is not a lot of bounce, but if I am in a bunker or need the club to bounce, I can work that too with the thicker sole.

7 Putter Ping PLD

They kindly made this up for me in America. I wanted a really firm face with no grooves, which is what they’ve done. It is 35 inches so suits my upright claw grip and it feels nice and firm. My problem when I putt in tournaments is my pace gets a bit slow, so I want something that can compensate for that.

8 Ball Titleist Pro V1

This is the 2017 Titleist Pro V1. When I initially changed to the Titleist ball in 2017, I did use the Pro V1x because it had a lot more backspin and I wanted that in my bag. I wanted a much more spinny driver and a much more spinny ball to compensate for where I was at and to aid where I’d been. As I played more through that year I realised it was beginning to spin too much, so I changed to the Pro V1 in the middle of 2017 and played great through the rest of the year. I have just never tested another ball since.
