Ecco Biom H4 Shoe £160

GM Verdict

Known for its traditional, premium styling, Ecco is looking to branch out to the slightly younger and young-atheart demographic with the sleek, ultra-modern Biom H4.

It’s been a while since the previous Biom model, the Hybrid 3, was launched in 2017. The H4 represents a significant design shift and we love the direction Ecco has gone.

From a styling perspective, it hits the perfect note. Being a fairly neutral design overall means it will interest a broad range of golfers and it provides off-course versatility. But the pops of colour and subtle features, like the embossed leather upper and brown leather patch on the tongue, provide enough pizazz to bolster the shelf appeal.

We love the look and grip on offer from the Biom H4

The experience inside the shoe doesn’t disappoint, either. The room up front increases comfort by giving your toes room to manoeuvre, while the back section is more locked in position, a trait the golfer needs to maximise grip and stability.

It isn’t the softest-feeling spikeless shoe underfoot, but sometimes you don’t want your golf shoes to feel overly squishy when on the course; there’s enough give there not to feel cumbersome when walking while still providing a solid base to swing from.

The grip from the outsole also impressed. While mud did gather in the deep channels when testing in moist conditions, it didn’t seem to affect the traction we experienced. Regardless of the lie, the sole held firm when we needed it to. Plus, it has the Gore-tex membrane for peace of mind should you get caught in a passing shower. Additionally, the softer section around the ankle means you can easily wear them with no socks if you wish.

The Biom H4 comes in at a premium price point, but justifiably so in our view. Made from the best materials and packed with performance, this could easily become the shoe you reach for first before every round you play.

Key Technology

The Biom H4 is crafted on the new Biom 2.0 last for a modern, updated look and a more rounded toe shape versus the S-three shoe. This enables the foot to move naturally and feels like a second skin around the foot.

Wrapping around the foot from the outsole to the midsole, the X-tensa Invisible TPU element on the side enhances stability by connecting the sole unit to the lacing system.

The MTN Grip outsole includes three sections to provide stability and rotational

support.
