o you want to do something truly remarkable in aid of charity this summer? Do you have it in you to play four rounds of golf in one day to support those living with cancer? This summer will see the 22nd running of the Macmillan Longest Day Golf Challenge and the concept is a simple one: teams of four will play four rounds (72 holes) on a single day, on or around June 21 – the day with the most daylight in 2022.

It’s a great chance to combine enjoyment of the sport you love with charity to help those who need assistance in fighting this cruel disease. Now is the time to find that inner strength and embark on this most fulfilling of golfing challenges.

Macmillan Cancer Support is doing whatever it takes to navigate the backlog of cancer cases since the start of the pandemic. It’s a chance to dust off those clubs and participate in a great event for an incredibly worthwhile cause.

Anyone can register at longestdaygolf.macmillan. org.uk (or by scanning the QR code) and it’s free to do so – get a team of four together, pick a date, find a course or club that’s able to accommodate you, get fundraising and go out there and be a real golfing hero.

The first thing is to get a team of four together who are ready to take on the challenge. It doesn’t matter if you’re scratch players or high-handicappers – anyone can roll their sleeves up and do their bit to help provide people living with cancer with physical, emotional and financial support. You can choose to play on the longest day of the summer, June 21, or pick any date that suits your team.

Once you have a plan in place, you can start your fundraising. The more you raise, the more assistance Macmillan Cancer Support can offer. And, the four teams who raise the most money by the closing date of September 16 could win a golfing holiday to the Boavista Golf & Spa Resort in Portugal to take part in the Longest Day Golf Challenge Finals, which run from November 3-6, 2022 [full competition terms available at longestdaygolf. macmillan.org.uk].

Macmillan Cancer Support has lots of advice on its website to support you in your fundraising and a great deal of information on how your efforts can make a huge difference.

On the day, you can play against each other within your four or just for fun; you simply have to complete 72 holes of golf. Get the club you’re playing at involved and encourage supporters to follow you on the course or welcome you off the 72nd green. It’s an incredible day of golf and a chance to pull together to help those affected by this terrible illness.
