Good Housekeeping (UK)

EDITOR’S NOTE

- Michelle Hather EXECUTIVE EDITOR Michelle@goodhousekeeping.co.uk

It’s a little bit crowded in my house at the moment. As I explain this month in Now We Are Six (p24), my chickens have all come home to roost. My husband and I have gone from a couple of empty nesters to being chucked off the sofa by our children, who have all suddenly come back home. These days it’s a problem for a growing number of parents and their kids, so we asked the GHI experts how best to cope when your grown-up children boomerang back. It’s enough to make me run away on holiday. It’s not that I don’t like sharing a home with four young adults, but an empty beach and a comfortable sunlounger do sound particularly appealing at the moment. This month, travel editor David Wickers has been given bumper space to explore what’s hot on the holiday scene. It’s not too late to book a trip for this summer – or perhaps plan an adventure for 2019, so turn to p161 for our 12-page GH Travel Extra section and begin the dream!

Sunshine is everywhere in this issue. I love the summer glow radiating from the pages of our glorious holiday style story (p72), shot by the GH fashion team on location in Miami. And the edit of the latest garden furniture on p104 makes me determined that I will buy that fire pit, and a new sunbed, and make the most of my (very small) garden this year. This month’s food, too, is simply summer on a plate. For one of the stories, the cookery team created 14 flavours of delicious ice cream (p143) and, as you know, every recipe that is developed for GH has to be Triple Tested, so we spent a happy afternoon making sure each one was just right. But don’t take my word for it, make them for yourselves!

And finally, I wanted to mention an exciting new campaign to help us all be Financially Fabulous. It’s not just about good housekeeping, our free fortnightly newsletter is filled with money-saving and money-making tips, so that you can live the life you want. With more mouths to feed and garden furniture to buy, I’ll be signing up at goodhousekeeping.co.uk/ffnewsletter, but for a sneak preview, turn to p52 for finance editor Kalpana Fitzpatrick’s advice.
