Cookery ed’s CHOICE
APRIL’S SEASONAL PRODUCE, MUST-EATS AND BEST BUYS FROM COOKERY DIRECTOR MEIKE BECK
PASS THE CHEESE
It seems that Red Leicester is having a resurgence in popularity, and rightly so. Co-op’s Irresistible Vintage Red Fox is one of the best I’ve nibbled recently – and it’s vegetarian. It’s deeply orange, tangy and sweet from the mouthwatering caramel notes; I adore the crunchy lactate crystals in it, too. Go taste it!
£2.80 for 200g.
HARD TO RESIST
Known for its dark, premium organic Fairtrade varieties, Chocolate and Love has gone a little lighter with its 50% cocoa Milk Chocolate with Caramelised Hazelnuts & Sea Salt bar. The moment anyone with a sweet tooth, like me, has been waiting for! It’s incredible: milky, but still adult, and the flavours come through so proudly. £3.29 for 80g; for stockists and shop, visit chocolateandlove.com.
HYDRATE IN STYLE
Liven up water with Waterdrop’s Microdrink cubes, which dissolve to create a glass of fruit and plant extracts, providing valuable vitamins (and with minimal recyclable packaging). With nine varieties, there’s bound to be one you’ll love.
The Zen cubes (starfruit, white tea and lemongrass) are delicious.
£6.99 for 12, en.waterdrop.com.
GRATE EXPECTATIONS
If you’re in the market for a new grater, then it has to be Microplane. Its Premium Classic Zester glides across citrus fruit, hard cheeses, chocolate, ginger, garlic and nutmeg, and there’s always one in our tool bag. We love the 25th anniversary
Coral Red colour, too.
RRP £19.95, hartsofstur.com.
