Fifty years after the first episode aired, the hit BBC sports quiz show is on tour. SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
It was one of the fastest-selling musicals on Broadway and now Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal is bringing it to life on the stage of London’s
Savoy Theatre. Running for 12 weeks, the story is a fictionalised account of the French 19th-century painter Georges Seurat (Gyllenhaal) as he struggles to complete what would become his most famous painting. CHIDDINGSTONE CASTLE LITERARY FESTIVAL
This four-day spectacular is set against the backdrop of a 19th-century castle and 35 acres of Kent countryside. The lineup of guest authors includes Maggie O’farrell, who will talk about her latest book, Hamnet (read our interview with her on page 180), Joanna Trollope, who will discuss issues at the heart of a modern family (she talks to us about the books that changed her life on page 179), and former editor-in-chief of British Vogue Alexandra Shulman. 7 to 10 May; chiddingstonecastle.org.uk
THE STORY MUSEUM
Following a two-year closure, The Story Museum in Oxford is reopening, and it has had quite a transformation. Now, it’s bursting with immersive installations and gallery spaces, including The Whispering Wood, an indoor forest where every tree has a tale to tell, and The Enchanted Library, where visitors can step inside scenes of their favourite children’s stories.
