‘I’ll defend my title of Monopoly champion’

TV star and competitive board gamer Jamie on returning to Strictly this year

-

This year I’m not going to take anything for granted. I think because of all the restrictions and what’s happened, lots of people haven’t been able to see their families. I think it’s a special year to remember how important family is and really spend that time well. Enjoy it, thoroughly go for

it, and just spread the love with each other. Family is everything. Usually I’d go to the Gloucestershire countryside with my mum, my siblings and the rest of the extended family. Coming together is the thing I love the most about Christmas.

I’m absolutely epic at choosing presents. I’m an insane present buyer. The best present I ever bought was flying lessons for my brother. And I have my own sweets company, Candy Kittens, and bring all of the sweets with me at Christmas so I’m a hero among my nieces and nephews.

Festive traditions are really important to me. We usually go to evensong on Christmas Eve, and I still open Santa’s presents on my parents’ bed, even though I’m 31! Another tradition in our house is wearing black tie on Christmas Day. That said, you’re allowed to relax a bit after 11am and undo some buttons to fit the turkey in. We eat, drink, have fun and watch Home Alone in the evening. It’s the best time.

We play a lot of board games with the family at Christmas. I’m quite competitive, especially when it comes to Monopoly. The last time I lost was 1992.

It’s weird being back on Strictly. I got so hyped the first time, so I’m even more nervous for this one. My mum was so excited that I was taking part last year, and she was disappointed when I had to drop out. So I’m hoping that I don’t disappoint her this year, because I’ve really disappointed her lots in my life!

MY CHRISTMAS WISH... Obviously, I hope to win Strictly! I also hope next year is going to be much better for everyone.
