Hands-on time 10min, plus setting. Cooking time about 10min. Makes 400g hot chocolate mixture

✺ 75g cocoa powder ✺ 25g powdered milk ✺ 100g finely grated dark chocolate ✺ 150g icing sugar ✺ 1tbsp cornflour ✺ 50g mini marshmallows (or chocolate chips)

FOR THE CHOCOLATE SPOONS ✺ 100g each dark, milk and white chocolate, chopped and kept separate ✺ Wooden spoons

CHOICE OF TOPPINGS

Try contrasting/coloured chocolate, fudge chunks, mini marshmallows, chopped chocolate sweets, chopped nuts, crushed sweets, chilli flakes, chopped crystallised ginger, sugar sprinkles, silver balls

1 In a large bowl, mix together the cocoa, powdered milk, chocolate, icing sugar and cornflour. Put into a large, sterilised 1 litre Kilner jar, or divide among smaller jars, and top with marshmallows (or chocolate chips).

2 For the chocolate spoons (we made 10), melt your chosen chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water. Dip wooden spoons into the chocolate up to the handle, then lay on a baking sheet lined with baking parchment. While the chocolate is still melted, sprinkle over your chosen toppings and leave to set. When the spoons are hard, remove them from the paper and wrap in a cellophane bag to seal.

3 To make up a single serving of hot chocolate, add 2tbsp hot chocolate mix and 350ml milk to a pan. Gently warm over a medium heat until combined and piping hot. Serve immediately with extra mini marshmallows, chocolate spoons to dip and whipped cream, if you like.
