The short, murky days of autumn and winter with their inclement weather have never been my favourite and, as we don’t currently have the joy and distraction of working with our wonderful

GH team in the office, in early October I confess I found my normal optimism rapidly evaporating. But then, based on a recommendation from a friend, I took myself off to the Outback of Australia and got deeply involved in solving a missing-person mystery!

Not actually in person, you understand, but listening to the audiobook Force Of Nature by

Jane Harper, through the Audible app. In just three days, I had the case clinched as, unlike with reading a book, I could listen while going for my daily jog, when cooking dinner and when driving to visit my mum, so my downtime was filled with something utterly absorbing. Since then, I’ve been along the Appalachian Trail in America with Bill Bryson (A Walk In The Woods), I’ve journeyed to Greece (One August Night, Victoria Hislop) and I’ve even spent a wonderful, thrilling time with Her Majesty the Queen at Windsor Castle (The Windsor Knot,

SJ Bennett). Quite simply, I have become an audiobook devotee and feel so grateful to have discovered their soul-soothing powers.
