FIND A FINANCIAL PLANNER
If you want someone to show you what to do with your money to achieve your future goals, you need a financial planner. If you’re looking for advice on specific financial products, then see an independent financial advisor.
To find a local certified financial planner, go to financialplanning.org.uk or unbiased.co.uk. It’s important to have trust and a good rapport with your planner, so ask friends and family for recommendations, too.
‘Your first consultation will be free, at which stage you should get an idea of whether a planner can add value to your life,’ says Martin Bamford. If you decide to go ahead, your advisor will charge you a bespoke fee, depending on your situation – there’s no average cost per session, as advice is tailored to each client. ‘All advisors have their own fee structure,’ Bamford continues, ‘and the cost will depend on your needs.’
