Maldives
A flotilla of a country. Varying in size between tiny and very tiny, the islands all share the same simple topography: a deep green heart fringed by perfect, white sand beaches and surrounded by a lagoon of pale lime, turquoise and azure. What differs are the resorts. There are around 100, mostly five star, each with an island to itself. Think of the Maldives as an archipelago of hotels rather than islands and you will have the right idea. Top tip: take a mask – the one for underwater goggling, not Covid protection. One week on Kuramathi, full-board, including flights and transfers, costs from £1,649pp; Kuoni (kuoni.co.uk).
