Good times with... Kate Silverton
Journalist and author Kate lives in London with her husband, Mike Heron, and their two children, Clemency, nine, and Wilbur, six.
The last great film you saw…
Casablanca. It felt good to be transported to another time and to be reminded of how love remains the strongest thread running through our lives. The film you could watch over
and over… Mamma Mia! is a wonderful film to lift the spirits and I adore Meryl Streep.
If you asked my husband, it would be any of the Jason Bourne films so, inevitably, I’ve watched those a few times, too! The performance that made you cry… Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep in The Deer Hunter. It’s a stark reminder of the ways war disrupts and destroys lives.
The one you’d tell everyone to see… Inside Out is such a great film for understanding and talking about our emotions. The podcast you love… Any podcast featuring Dr Gabor Maté; he talks with such compassion about the human spirit and why people do what they do.
The last boxset you binged on… Succession. It’s outstandingly acted and scripted. It was utterly (and at times, terribly) compelling. The last album you loved… I’ve been playing Yael Deckelbaum recently, especially Women Of The World Unite, which my daughter and I love ‘playing the drums’ to! The one you want to hear…
Anything that is meditative and relaxing; my mind is very busy.
The book that inspired you…
All the books I’ve read in research for my own book, There’s No Such Thing As ‘Naughty’. I’ve read a lot of books around neuroscience and psychotherapy as I’m training to become a child psychotherapist. The best recommendation you received… I’m looking forward to reading What Happened To You? by Oprah Winfrey and Dr Bruce Perry. It’s about childhood trauma and how it shapes the adults we become. The ticket you’d love to get your hands on… An airline ticket!
There’s No Such Thing As ‘Naughty’: The Groundbreaking Guide For Parents With Children Aged 0-5 (Piatkus, £14.99) by Kate Silverton is out now.
I love
Mamma Mia! and I adore Meryl Streep
