THEY SPLIT A MONTH AGO,
amid reports that their hectic schedules had driven them apart. But it seems Bella Hadid isn’t ready to let The Weeknd go just yet.
Earlier this month, the model was snapped brooding over an old photo of herself kissing the singer – real name Abel Tesfaye – as she travelled to Paris on the Victoria’s Secret private plane. Fellow model Kelly Gale had posted a Snapchat video that inadvertently captured an oblivious Bella looking at the image on her iphone.
Just days later, the pair came face to face as Bella walked the catwalk alongside Abel, 25, who was performing onstage. But while they appeared to put their break-up to one side on the runway,
Grazia understands it was a different picture behind the scenes.
‘Bella and The Weeknd were all anyone
could talk about at Victoria’s Secret,’ said one insider. ‘At the after-party, Bella stayed close to Abel, despite the fact that her sister Gigi and Kendall Jenner passed through as fast as they could after having their pictures taken.
‘Bella made a beeline for The Weeknd’s VIP booth with her mum Yolanda, and both of them stopped to chat to him. But while Bella seemed keen to catch up, he was quick to return to his entourage and leave her with her mother.’
The couple were first linked in April 2015, after Abel asked Bella to appear in the artwork for his album Beauty Behind
The Madness. He later commented, ‘My motive was literally to work with her.’
At the time of their split, a source told US magazine People, ‘Their schedules have been too hard to coordinate and he is focusing on finishing and promoting his album. They still have a great deal of love for one another and will remain friends.’
But a second source insists, ‘Abel was the one who dumped Bella. He was resentful that she was travelling all around the world without him. This didn’t come from her.’
Speaking to Grazia backstage at the show, Bella seemed to allude to the break-up when she said, ‘I just want to find happiness in my personal life.’
It comes as The Weeknd broke global Spotify records with the release of his latest album, Starboy, with more than 40 million streams in one day and over 223 million streams in the first week, meaning he is now the number one most listened to artist on the service.
So what’s next? ‘After Abel left Bella at the party, she and Yolanda made a pretty quick exit. The whole encounter appeared awkward, and she seemed to be reluctant to leave. They insist everything has ended with them being best friends, but it didn’t seem that way. It seems like Bella isn’t ready to move on.’
