FULL CIRCLE
Some hidden gems have appeared sequestered on the wire recently, far from their natural habitat. The first is the far from flawless but worth investigating adaptation of Dave Eggers’ The Circle, his masterful romp through a barely imagined digital world. Tom Hanks stars. Tanked at the US box office, but there’s enough faithful evidence of the source text to wonder why here. Netflix

Second is Check It, a beautiful, audacious documentary, cut very much from the same cloth as Paris
Is Burning, about a bunch of Washington DC gay and transgender men who decided to tackle escalating homophobic crime in the city by fighting back. It’s tenacious, tender and full to the brim with absolute heroism in the face of absolute establishment disinterest. Wonderful stuff. A GIFT FOR YOU
Last but not least, for anyone late to the party with Blumhouse Productions, the film-makers behind horror masterclass Get Out, there are two of their old works currently revitalised online. The Gift is Jason Bateman on far more startling, if vaguely hideous, form and Hush might just be the best of their lot. Netflix
