Alicia and Michael ‘PLANNING A FAMILY’
HE ONCE DESCRIBED relationships as a ‘risk’ and claimed he was ‘kind of selfish’ when it came to women.
But, three years into his romance with Alicia Vikander, it seems Michael Fassbender has had a change of heart.
According to a well-placed source, the couple have taken the next step in their relationship: a move to the British countryside, where Michael apparently hopes to start a family. It comes as Alicia spends an increasing amount of time in the UK to film the latest Tomb Raider.
‘Michael has totally thawed on some of his views on marriage and having a family,’ the insider told Grazia. ‘Before, he always maintained it wasn’t for him, but Alicia has changed everything. They are now so serious that they have a countryside home that is both of theirs. They are totally obsessed with one another and have talked about having kids.’
Michael, 40, and Alicia, 28, got together in 2014 after meeting on the set of The Light Between Oceans. The film, set in Western Australia post-world War I, tells the story of a lighthouse keeper and his wife who find a baby in an abandoned boat.
Michael later admitted that he and Alicia had ‘instant chemistry’ when they met and described her as ‘kind of fierce and hungry’. She, meanwhile, said, ‘I knew [Michael] was attached to play Tom and I thought he was one of the most brilliant actors out there. I was very nervous.’
But while Alicia has been open about her desire to have children (last year, during a joint interview to promote the film, she said, ‘I always imagined having a family in the future’), Michael has been less forthcoming about his romantic life.
In an interview in 2016, he said, ‘I’m not going to talk about my private life with a stranger unless I feel like I need to. Why would I?
‘It’s the worst thing if you’re sitting there in the theatre, going, “Oh, that’s the guy who dates this person and likes to do this in the morning and that in the afternoon.” Then you’re just watching a brand, as opposed to an actor.’
News of the couple’s move comes after they took a romantic holiday together in Ibiza last month. They were pictured walking hand in hand on the beach and kissing on board a yacht with friends.
‘Alicia and Michael have managed to maintain a relatively low profile as a couple,’ said the source. ‘But they know that is all about to change because of Alicia’s role in Tomb Raider.
‘Michael has done a 180 on his previous mindset about his private life. Before, he only wanted to be in relationships where he was given a ton of freedom. Alicia isn’t putting any pressure on him to settle down, but he’s told friends he thinks he could marry her. Now, they’re just waiting for the right time.’
