‘HOW I STYLE OUT SUCCESS’

Ever wondered how successful people make it all work? Freddie Harrel, style blogger and founder of SHE Unleashed, shares her work-smart hacks

‘MY BABY WAKES UP AT 7AM, which is when my day starts with kisses and cuddles. I always have a big glass of water first thing and go for a run, at least every other day. Exercise is great for shaking off stress and can really set you up mentally for the day. We always have music playing in the morning – normally soul or jazz as it puts me in a good mood for the day ahead. My top tip is to find 10 minutes to listen to a mindfulness app. Creating the right frame of mind is key to using your time well.

‘I don’t look at my phone at all until 8am. Being strict on setting boundaries between my job and home creates that essential work-life balance. Until 8am, I can focus on family and then have a clear head as I settle down to tasks. It’s especially important as I mostly work from home. I always finish in time for my son’s bath at 6.30pm so we have time together. It’s all about working smartly during office hours – not working all the hours; that’s counter-productive for creativity and well-being.

‘To get the most out of my work hours, I write a to-do list every evening for the following day. I’m currently working on a productivity talk for the Red Bull Can Do Sessions in London on 6 September which is keeping me really busy. To manage my workload, I break down each task into lots of smaller steps, so I can tick things off more often. This is an easy-buteffective strategy, so you feel satisfied with your progress, rather than frustrated. Before bed, I go screen-free for at least an hour to encourage a good night’s sleep. I chat to my husband, listen to music and properly unwind.

‘If I had an extra hour in the day – wouldn’t we all kill for that! – I’d make more time for friends, whether that’s going for dinner or calling for a chat. It would be great to have more quality time with them.’ Want to learn more about working smarter, not harder?
