To say Dr Sturm has a fascination with blood is an understatement. She’s responsible for the ‘vampire Face-lift’ (Google it for a selfexplanatory visual), and has harnessed the apparent healing power of the fluid in a moisturiser, called MC1. Plasma from blood contains regenerative, antiinflammatory proteins – and inflammation is believed to be the root of all ageing.

What’s her thing? ‘We use non-toxic, scientific ingredients that are effective,’ she says. Of her 13-strong product stable, the common denominator ingredient is purslane, a plant proven to help telomeres (the protective caps on our chromosomes). And – contrary to the inclinations of the industry – she believes that instead of ‘harsh retinols that in the long-term weaken cells, we need healing ingredients’.
