PLUMP AND TONE

with Dr Barbara Sturm in Düsseldorf

-

To say Dr Sturm has a fascination with blood is an understatement. She’s responsible for the ‘vampire Face-lift’ (Google it for a selfexplanatory visual), and has harnessed the apparent healing power of the fluid in a moisturiser, called MC1. Disclaimer: the only blood you’ll ever encounter is solely your own. And the science? Plasma from blood contains regenerative, antiinflammatory proteins – and inflammation is believed to be the root of all ageing.

What’s her thing? ‘We use non-toxic, scientific ingredients that are effective,’ she says. Of her 13-strong product stable, the common denominator ingredient is purslane, a plant proven to help telomeres (the protective caps on our chromosomes). And – contrary to the inclinations of the industry – she believes that instead of ‘harsh retinols that in the long-term weaken cells, we need healing ingredients’.

Who should visit? Those in the market for a more plumped face. Dr Barbara is a master in the utilisation of hyaluronic acid (a molecule known to hold over 1,000 times its own weight in water) – her Hyaluronic Ampoules are a stalwart in celeb make-up bags the world over.
