TECHNICOLOUR DREAM CLOTHES
IF COLD, DARK nights have got you suffering a severe case of the winter blues, allow us to prescribe a potent sartorial solution: colour. In fact, all the colours.
An unashamedly in-your-face antidote to bad news and low moods, multicoloured rainbow stripes can be found emblazoned across everything from knitwear to pencil skirts and strappy sandals right now. ( Well, as the one and only Ms Dolly Parton said, ‘If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.’) Bold, brash, bright and unapologetically optimistic, these exuberant pieces are your perfect mood elevators – and a welcome rest from all those dreary winter shades. Seriously – you try slipping on Gap’s rainbow-striped sweater and not feeling a little cheerier.
If your case of the blues is particularly acute, we prescribe an even stronger remedy: sequin rainbow stripes. As seen everywhere from Ashish’s shake-your-stuff going-out PJS (no need to commit to the face mask) to Mira Mikati’s luxe tracky bottoms and Kurt Geiger’s clutches, these spangly pieces make Joseph’s amazing technicolour dreamcoat look positively muted. Even better – why not wear them all at once? It might be ‘too much’, but that’s exactly the point – this is an exuberant, optimistic trend that isn’t meant to be subtle. No word yet on whether there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow – but you’re sure to have a good time finding out.
Friends of Mariah Carey
are said to have been delighted when she recently parted ways with her controversial manager, Stella Bulochnikov – the woman who engineered her reality show amid claims of financial hardship for the singer. Upon being introduced to Stella’s unofficial replacement – Mariah’s 34-year-old backing dancer boyfriend Bryan Tanaka – they are believed to have been… less enthused.
According to one associate familiar with the situation, ‘Bryan has no experience in management but is calling the shots on Mariah’s career. He’s already dispensed with her musical director and attorney, and seems to have a surprising degree of self-confidence that he knows best. She’s paying him $12,000 a week to advise her.’
While Mariah’s spokesperson denied that Bryan is officially acting as Mariah’s manager, they declined to name the person who is. ‘Mariah has put a lot of faith in him, but not everyone agrees that it’s the best course of action,’ added the source.
The news follows reports that Mariah is struggling financially. In July it was claimed that her card had been declined during a shopping spree on Rodeo Drive.
