REASON J-LAW DOESN’T WANT AN OSCAR

-

WINNING AN ACADEMY AWARD is generally acknowledged to be the pinnacle of any actor’s career – so what’s making Jennifer Lawrence apparently reticent to enter this year’s race? According to insiders, it’s the idea of hitting the promo trail with her recent ex, director Darren Aronofsky.

Back in October, Grazia was the first to report that Jennifer, 27, and Darren, 48, were considering ending their relationship, and in November they were widely reported to have quietly split. The pair met on the set of the controversial film Mother!, with Grazia revealing that, during filming, one cast member wrote on Facebook, ‘ This week I was working with Jennifer Lawrence and was blown away. Swallowing the amount of crap and yelling she has to take in [from] a fussy boss: I would have personally walked out that door. Abuse is abuse, no matter what job you do.’ Jennifer later confirmed that she tore her diaphragm on set and said, ‘I don’t know if I’d ever work with Darren again.’

According to one source, ‘Not everyone thought Jennifer’s relationship with Darren was healthy, and the film was her biggest ever box office flop. She wants to move on from the whole experience, but the studio have other ideas, and are pitching her as a contender for a Best Actress nomination. While she’d absolutely love to win another Oscar, she’s not so keen to campaign with Darren. In order to be successful, they’d likely have to attend a raft of screenings and Q&AS to secure the votes of Academy members, which must feel an incredibly awkward prospect.’

Despite the film’s poor critical and commercial reception, Jennifer’s performance as a traumatised mother sent to the ends of human endurance was roundly praised. In addition, she is a favourite of the Academy, even when her films are not. In 2015 she scored a nomination for Joy, which had no other nods, and she has been in the running for Best Actress four times since 2010 (winning for Silver Linings Playbook in 2013).

Last week, Jennifer spoke about how the poor reviews of Mother! hurt her relationship with Darren. ‘ We’d be on the tour together, I’d come back to the hotel and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is the movie, and he comes back and that’s all he wants to talk about,’ she said. ‘I was doing double duty of trying to be a supportive partner while also being like, “Can I please, for the love of God, not think about Mother! for one second?”’

The source added, ‘ The whole process of filming and then seeing it savaged by critics has left Jennifer spent, and she’s decided to take a break from Hollywood. The last thing she wants to do is to keep discussing it. She wants to put this chapter behind her.’
