YOUTHQUAKE? WE NEED A WORD...

-

Oxford English Dictionary – we love your work. You’ve brought us ‘post-truth’, ‘selfie’ and even an emoji ( ) as your words of the year. But for 2017, we have a bone to pick. You crowned ‘youthquake’ the winner, because of ‘the impact of the country’s young people on its general election’. And while, yes, they no doubt helped Labour to a better-thanexpected result, the Government didn’t exactly change. So let’s call it what it was – a youth-ripple. However, there was a quake this year. And this one didn’t shudder, it took down – big powerful men, with big powerful careers. So OED, we’d like to nominate a brand-new word: womanquake. Anoint that your number one!
