MEET THE NEW TRACK STARS

-

IF YOU’VE spent the past few weeks carb loading like a marathon runner, drinking like a Roman emperor and dressing like a Christmas tree, then you’ll be ready for a rest by now. But since (sadly) hitting the snooze button ’til spring isn’t an option, we’ll take the next best thing: track pants.

January is the month of the jogging bottom – a ridiculously comfortable palette cleanser that requires zero effort or energy. Indeed, any item of clothing that doesn’t demand to be worn with control pants gets our vote right now. Jersey is great, cashmere is even better – Olivia von Halle’s silky cashmere tracksuit is the dream. The designer lives in hers. ‘ They’re impossibly soft but still polished and cool,’ she says – and we couldn’t agree more.

Your new jogging bottom directive is to think slouchy rather than slobby. Thanks to upscale fabrics and fine detailing, they don’t just count as Sunday gear any more. ‘ The continued focus on “sporty tailoring” has further blurred the lines between “lounge” and smart clothing,’ explains Coco Chan, Stylebop.com’s head of womenswear, who’s bought into Haider Ackermann and Maggie Marilyn this season. Worn with a blazer and spike heel boots, they’re even safe for work. The fashion gods are really looking after us.

Best of all? Even these high-end track pants come with an elasticated waist. And relax…
