We’ve got so much time for

- Reese Witherspoon

Everyone makes mistakes – Britney Spears literally married Kevin Federline – and we are no different. In recent years, we’ve been guilty of eye-rolling slightly (a lot) as Reese Witherspoon’s production company has bought the rights to every book going ( Gone Girl, Wild, Big Little Lies, Luckiest Girl Alive, that erotic novella your mum dashed off after mainlining 50 Shades…). At times it felt like a Hollywood star treating the literary world like her own personal game of Pokémon – Reese just had to catch ’em all. But last week, amid reports that she has 12 more book-to-screen adaptations on the way, Reese explained her decision to develop roles for the likes of Octavia Spencer and Kristen Wiig: ‘I’ve done enough for myself. I had a whole great career, I won every award I can win. But it doesn’t make me feel like I’m doing anything that’s going to change the culture, or leave this business a better place, if I’m not doing more for other people. I’m using everything I’ve learned along the way, and my own money and celebrity collateral – whatever that is – and I will stand next to anyone I believe in who deserves a different opportunity.’ Sorry, Reese, consider us humbled. Forgive us our cynicism, and we’ll even overlook Sweet Home Alabama, yeah?
