Has awards season come between Margot and Tom?

-

They’re The only Hollywood power couple who can claim to have co-produced an Oscar-nominated film and lived in a Clapham flat-share with four norms. But now word has reached Grazia that the pressure of awards season has taken its toll on Margot Robbie and her husband Tom Ackerley.

Last week, an eyewitness at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party claimed Tom had stormed out of the building after an apparent row. Margot – who had been nominated for Best Actress for her role in their film, I, Tonya, but lost out to Frances Mcdormand for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri – was left to be comforted by Isla Fisher.

Before that, at the BAFTAS, a second source observed Tom sitting alone at an after-party while Margot chatted with fellow nominees, including Saoirse Ronan. Later, she was seen at a Soho House after-party without Tom.

‘ Tom and Margot have gone from living a low-key life in a shared flat to contending with the pressures of the A-list in quick succession, and it hasn’t always been an easy transition,’ said the source.

‘Because Tom co-produced I, Tonya, the couple have merged their professional lives. It’s caused tensions, especially now that Margot is a huge star who everybody wants a piece of.’

Earlier this year, Margot told The Guardian that she and assistant director Tom had started dating after becoming housemates while she was shooting The Legend Of Tarzan (at the time, Tom was working on a Mission: Impossible sequel). ‘ We kept it a secret because we weren’t really taking it seriously,’ she said. ‘“Oh, whatever, we’re just mates, we’re just mates.” And then… everyone found out. I’m not going into the details, but shit hit the fan. Our house turned into The Jerry Springer Show for a moment there. But then the dust settled, and it was all good.

‘Everyone was, like: “No! This is going to ruin our group!” And then it didn’t. It was fine.’

In 2016, the couple prompted rumours that they had married in secret after they were pictured wearing wedding rings. At the time, multiple sources reported that they frequently referred to each other as husband and wife. However, in December that year, they made it official at a ceremony in Byron Bay, Australia.

The pair have their own production company, Luckychap Entertainment, which recently signed a two-year first-look deal with Warner Bros. The first project, a drama about Wall Street called Shattered Glass, has already been sold to NBC.

Margot, 27, has previously admitted that filming I, Tonya, led her to ‘lose her mind’ and told Grazia, ‘ Things are crazy right now. I’ve done four films this year. People are like, “You should slow down, you’re gonna burn out.” It’s insane and I’m exhausted but so happy and grateful.’

‘ Things came to a head over awards season,’ added the source. ‘But friends are hoping that now things are calmer workwise, they’ll be able to sort things out.’
