Therapy should be challenging (‘ Couples counselling kills

marriages’, 19 March) – you are there to learn about yourself, how you interact with those close to you and to understand that the only person you have any power over is yourself. We cannot change others and fix situations to suit ourselves. The therapist is only able to guide you, not fix your problems. We need to take responsibility for ourselves and the role we play within our relationships, to keep communicating and be honest and open with our emotions, to listen to things we might not want to hear and not react with anger.
