REPEALING FASHION
Andrea Horan, founder of The Hunreal Issues, is raising awareness with a collection commissioned from 12 Irish designers to be auctioned on 10 May. Here, she showcases a selection of the pieces…
PEARL PE REDDINGTON
I love the subtleness of the message with the 8s in this piece (right). We’ve had to shout and scream to even get politicians to consider our rights but now we’re at the table.
HELEN S STEELE
I love that Helen brings so much colour (left) to the world, and to this issue. You can really feel a bold spirit erupting from the women of Ireland. LOUISE KAVANAGH When we started talking about reproductive rights, it had to be solemn. The point of the project was to throw glitter on the issue without minimising it. Louise has done this with her embellished piece (right).
NATALIE B COLEMAN
Natalie’s collections embrace and support women. That love seeps out of this heart dress (below right) – even if our hearts are weeping from the crap we’ve put up with.
JILL DE BÚRCA
I love the perceived hardness of Jill’s pieces, but embroidery (below) shows a softness that just needs a little bit of attention to discover – like the self-preservation women have to show against a society that doesn’t rule in our favour.
