THE is often ANNUAL MET GALA billed as the Oscars of fashion. And yet, so often the looks on display seem to veer from blah to naff Halloween costume interpretations (the less said about the A-listers’ take on 2017’s Comme des Garçons theme, the better). But our faith was restored in the mega-watt power of the Met red carpet this year, as a galaxy of stars took divine inspiration from the celestial theme (Heavenly Bodies, a tribute to the exhibition that explores fashions inspired by Catholicism) and ran with it. After all, nothing says ‘I am no mere mortal’ like couture interpretations of papal hats, Joan of Arc armour and angel wings. Here’s the best of the Met in numbers. Let us pray.
