YOUR EYES (or, rather, your lids) are the key to refreshing your summer make-up look in mere minutes. From a flattering sweep of pearlised shimmer to high-impact lashes and the emerald shadow that will leave you green with envy (until you own it), take inspiration from this eye-enhancing line-up created by legendary make-up artist Mary Greenwell. Her top tip? ‘Opt for diffused, softened edges for an overall carefree feel that doesn’t require expert precision.’ We’re down with that.

Under smoke

If you’re aiming to give your go-to eye look a little more oomph, one of the easiest (and often underrated) tricks in the book is to swing shadow underneath your lower lash line. Again, diffused edges are the aim of the game, but make sure the shadow still stays tight against the lashes to properly frame the eyes. As for aubergine tones? Sundowner perfection.

Winging it

Not quite mastered the streamlined flick? Fear not. ‘I feel we’ve gone through that high- definition phase and come out the other side,’ says Mary. For winged shadow, this means throwing out the rule book that dictates matching eyes with meticulous precision and taking a relaxed approach instead. ‘Once you have your elongated shape, simply use a fluffy brush to gently feather the edges for a soft-focus effect,’ adds Mary.

Do the two tone

Take a trip back to the ’80s with a two-tone shadow that rides right up to the brow. ‘I’ve noticed a big shift towards playfulness in make-up, which is really what it’s all about,’ says Mary. So, whether you pair emerald with gold or make your own combination, go forth and get experimental. Oh, and load up on the lashes and lipstick for good measure.

H- eye lights

Non- committal when it comes to eyeshadow? You can still dip into the trend without going full throttle. Opt for subtle pearlised tones that catch the light just so and brighten eyes in an instant, using scribble- on shadow sticks for foolproof application. ‘Pair this with fresh, glowy, softly bronzed skin and you have the perfect look for any summer scenario,’ says Mary.

Lashings of lashes

After seasons of barely-there everything, the catwalks’ return to full- on lashes in all their glory was a more-than-welcome one. After all, mascara is the perennial make-up tool that disguises a symphony of sins and makes you look instantly pulled together with minimal effort. Better still, Chanel have launched the world’s first 3D printed mascara (Le Volume Révolution), which delivers maximum volume in a matter of swipes. ‘It’s about making lashes your make-up statement,’ says Mary.
