‘ We’re each other’s rocks’

-

AS SHE PREPARED for her marriage, RED Eugenie declared her 30-year-old sister and maid of honour Beatrice was her best friend, adding, ‘There’s no one I’d want by my side more than her.’ Yet on the day, Beatrice seemingly had somewhere else to be: by their mother Sarah’s side. As she sat down, Fergie grimaced at friends in the crowd, including Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, and let out a visible sigh of relief.

She had just made it past members of the royal family who famously froze her out in 1992 following photos of her having her toes sucked by oil tycoon John Bryan. Up until the morning, it was unknown whether Prince Philip, who is known to dislike Sarah, would even attend the wedding. When he did, the duchess was said to be ‘a bag of nerves’. Beatrice, who is believed to be single since splitting from Uber exec Dave Clark in 2016, seemingly had one job: to provide a layer of protection between the Duchess of York and the wider royal family.

The moment demonstrated the unique bond between the three, who are so close they apparently call themselves ‘The Tripod’. The princesses, who lived together in an apartment at St James’s Palace until Eugenie moved out with Jack, claim ‘the fair share of terrible media interest’ in their parents has only made their family stronger. They also credit their parents as ‘the happiest divorced couple in the world’.

‘We’re each other’s rocks,’ Eugenie told Vogue this year of her sister Beatrice. ‘We’re the only person in each other’s lives who can know exactly what the other one is going through.’
