GWYNETH’S FURY AT CHRIS FOR BUSTING THEIR ‘CONSCIOUS UNCOUPLING’ MYTH

-

EVER SINCE SHE consciously uncoupled from Chris Martin in 2014, Gwyneth Paltrow has worked hard to prove how amicable their split was (evidence: calling him her ‘ brother’, the snap she shared of Chris brunching with Brad Falchuk as she announced their engagement, or the multiple holidays they’ve taken together).

So it’s perhaps no surprise that the Goop entrepreneur is said to be less than enthused with Chris, 41, after he went off-script last week. In new documentary Coldplay: A Head Full Of Dreams he admitted he felt ‘completely worthless’ after their ‘painful’ marriage breakdown. ‘I was just like, “I’m a mess,” really, because I can’t enjoy the great things around me. Then, of course, I went through a break-up with Gwyneth. Listen, I’m never going to moan, I’m grateful for everything, but it was pretty touch and go.’

‘Despite the fact that Gwyneth is building a new married life with Brad, she still likes to keep up this idea that she and Chris have an unshakeable bond,’ said a source. ‘She was furious that he took their separation to such a dark place in the documentary as it goes against everything she’d said previously. She can’t help but feel this is further proof that Chris is no longer interested in playing by her rules.’

Chris went on to say that the divorce was a ‘challenging period’ that became a ‘journey from ultimate loneliness to ultimate togetherness’. His former manager, Phil Harvey, revealed that he would check on Chris’s well-being during the time of the marriage breakdown, explaining, ‘I was worried about him to the extent that I was just really glad to get a text in the morning just to know he was OK.’

The comments appear to be a million miles away from the couple’s separation statement in 2014, when they said that after 10 years of marriage they were ‘in many ways closer than we’ve ever been’.

As Grazia has previously reported, Chris and Gwyneth’s friendly exes routine was called into question when he failed to show up at her Hamptons wedding to Brad, 47, in September, while her reluctance to embrace Chris’s girlfriend Dakota Johnson, 29, has apparently also pushed them further apart, according to an LA insider.

‘Gwyneth is starting to think that their friendship, as it was, could be gone for good, and it frustrates her that Chris appears to be betraying their mission statement about their break-up,’ said the insider. ‘ There’s no question that they’ll continue to come together for matters concerning their children (Apple, 14, and Moses, 12) but it seems Chris has really broken free from this unrealistic idea that they’ve managed to remain best friends. Gwyneth is having to learn to accept that.’
