THE KARDASHIANSIANS GO BACK TO THE 1990s

-

OLD IS THE NEW NEW. Or at least it is on Planet Kardashian right now, where Kim, Kendall and the rest of the koterie are repping vintage clothing with their usual enthusiasm.

Consider the evidence: Kourtney was spotted last week in a mesh Jean Paul Gaultier top, printed with the Venus de Milo. It wasn’t the debut for the top, which had previously been worn by Kendall last summer, and was originally seen on the catwalk in the ’90s.

Kim’s also been on a vintage Gaultier trip: she wore a sheer cropped top and skirt for a recent TV appearance, and in an act of apparent fashion diplomacy ( it was said to be intended as a peace offering to the French designer, whose iconic fragrance bottle Kim’s KKW bottle, ahem, bore a resemblance to), she opted to wear a 1996 second-skin dress to the People’s Choice Awards in November. Testament to Kim’s selling power, that dress has already been widely copied, while ebay UK reports searches for Jean Paul Gaultier are up 191% since October.

It’s not just about vintage Gaultier, though. The Kardashians have also championed John Galliano’s Dior, Dolce & Gabbana mini-dresses, natty Chanel tweed suits, plus chainmail, bondage strapped and canary yellow Versace (all Kim, all vintage).

And who could forget the thong from last year? The thong being, specifically, a hard-to-find, 21-year-old Tom Ford for Gucci thong that was spotted on the world’s most in-demand derrière in an Insta-post ostensibly to promote a cosmetics collection. (No word on whether any of the sisters have borrowed this, although Kylie also wore Ford-era Gucci for her 21st birthday.)
