Now orange IS the new black
BUTTERNUT SQUASH, tangerine, carrot, pumpkin, persimmon. This isn’t the start of a veggie recipe, but gradations of summer’s greatest colour hit. It’s all about looking freshly squeezed and full of vitamin C this summer. Orange really is the new black.
Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner definitely got the tango memo. The sisters looked like the different stages of an LA sunset last week, with Kim in a thigh-high minidress in Sunny D orange and Kylie in similarly brief and highlighter-bright Julien Macdonald. Zendaya also knows the power of easy-peeler orange, appearing in a short and sweet Carolina Herrera dress and hair-bow combo for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert at the end of last month.
It might not be the easiest colour to pull off, but that hasn’t stopped fashion editors getting on-board. They’ve been relying on Dodo Bar Or’s flower power orange prints for holidays – perhaps influenced by all the orange taking over the catwalk. The colour appeared in head-totoe format, and in all its sunny glory, at Agnona, Altuzarra, Dries Van Noten, Etro and Eudon Choi on the catwalks.
Top-to-toe orange might look a little too Tropicana for the office, so begin with baby steps: a clementinecoloured handbag or mule sandals, for example. Dial things up a notch once you’re feeling confident with an easy-breezy dress in a fluid fabric or a sarong-style skirt worn with a crisp white shirt. Remember – the future’s bright.
