Master Grazia’s life skills

- Jana Dowling, founder of Arkeo

Taking care of your brain and mind is just as important as taking care of your body and physical fitness. With my new app, Arkeo, you can track your mental fitness and understand how your behaviour impacts your life. It’s focused on understanding the self. So, for instance – how does caffeine affect you? How does your sleep change you? It is all about the singular person, as opposed to what is good on an average basis, and how they relate to challenges you’re facing, like financial stress, anxiety, or relationship problems.

The app catches all of that information (it asks you to self-report on things like caffeine, sleep, food, which takes 20 seconds to fill in) and then it allows you to compare your data to see if there are any correlations. Through this, you can see whether your caffeine intake and anxiety levels are related, for example. You can also track your period, menopause or medication, which may show that, for instance, your period is related to financial stress or anxiety. You can track everything, but you get to choose what you want to track.

The more you use the app, the more intelligent it becomes. You can see all of your data over a week, a month or a year for all your data points and comparisons. It is not about abstaining or not doing anything that you enjoy – so if you drink alcohol, you drink alcohol. It is not about living a completely clean life – it is just about understanding how things impact your ability to manage situations, and when they do occur, you can manage yourself better through that time.

Technology has so much information on us, so we should have access to all of that. That’s what the app does – it gives you access to your data so you can make better decisions for yourself. It is all about increasing the quality of life, because if you understand yourself better, you can make your life infinitely better, too.
