St Columba’s gears up for major redevelopment

-

THERE is an exciting development for local school St Columba’s, as their Junior School will be relocating to the state-of-the-art Girdwood Building on Gryffe Road.

The Girdwood Building was opened to much fanfare in 2016 and by August 2025, it will be reopening as a newly transformed, warm and welcoming Junior School. Children will benefit from the finest teaching facilities in a bright and modern setting, fully equipped to inspire young minds.

More than that, they will be in a unique position to offer even closer collaborations with subject specialists ensuring that children of primary age foster a curiosity for learning, and the world around them, not to mention stronger links between pupils of all ages.

“We are thrilled to be offering new Junior School facilities and what this will mean for our school community, including those considering their child’s current education and weighing up the many benefits of a move to St Columba’s School,” a school spokesperson explained.

“These new plans will allow us to significantly upgrade our site a single site for the whole school - bringing the very best educational experience to our pupils.

“Indeed, this is always our goal and one which we are excited to share as widely as possible.

“Children and young people have the right to learn, but at St Columba’s School, we believe that they should feel safe and nurtured while doing so.

“A school should inspire a love for learning, where pupils are stimulated and excited by their journey. We live this every day.

“Here, we create an environment where learning is fun and where the opportunities to flourish are plentiful.

“Every Columban is supported to achieve their full potential both inside and outside the classroom.”

The team appreciate that choosing an independent school for your child is not an easy decision. Should you wish to discuss financial assistance options, they would welcome having a confidential chat with you.
