15 brown trout returned at Loch Bradan

-

THE Newark Angling Club travelled down the Ayrshire coast to Loch Bradan for their latest competitive day out.

High in the hills above the village of Straiton, 17 members who made the journey struggled with the heavy rain and strong winds.

The Loch was much higher than usual, however, there where 15 brown trout returned by senior members.

The juniors found the conditions on the loch very diŸcult but young Aidan Doyle still managed to return one Bradan brown trout on the Maggot to take top place on the day.

The seniors were competing for the Jim Gemmell Quaich for the heaviest bag on the Bradan.

Gilbert Bradley fished the far side of the loch on the maggot and landed two brownies, in the same area that current club champion Barry Doolan was fishing the spinner. He reported some undersize fish but managed to get on the points board with one scoring catch.

Mark Devlin, fishing the maggot, landed a brace, including the

heaviest fish of the day weighing in at three-quarters-of-a-pound.

Henry Harrison, however, had no luch as he lost what was probably going to be the heaviest catch of the outing, and had to settle for just one fish in the end.

Neil McDowell, fishing the spinner, returned two brownies while the club’s senior citizens struggled, though Stevie Lietch manage one return and Joe O’Brian would return some small trout. Due to the conditions he lost a decent fish at the net but returned two trout.

The winner on the day was George Martin who, fishing his favourite mark on the Bradan, returned three good fish to clinch the silverware.
