YOUNG GUNS GET CHANCE

- By JAMES FINDLATER james.findlater@reachplc.com @JamieFin_

IAN Holloway will be putting his faith in his young players again as Grimsby Town look for their first league win of the season against Salford City.

The Mariners welcome Graham Alexander’s side to Blundell Park this afternoon for their first home game of the new League Two campaign, having come back empty-handed from their trip to Walsall last weekend. Town’s players have struggled with their fitness in their three run-outs so far this season, and in particular looked to be out on their feet during the closing stages of their clash at the Bescot Stadium.

With that in mind, Holloway has promised to make changes to his side, and is hoping his young players can make the difference.

“I’ve had a look at it, I’m going to make a few changes because some of my new ones haven’t played for quite a while, that’s their first 90 minutes in quite some time,” Holloway said. “I’ve got to try and splice the young lads into the team, and then the more senior ones I need to give some pre-season to because two or three of them haven’t had a pre-season yet. “We’ll go quite young again, as

I’m working some of the more experienced lads, some of the ones I’ve brought in to get them fit. They’re not actually fit. I decided to use them last week because I felt I needed that and thought I’d see how we go. “But when you look at the legs we had in the game on the Tuesday night compared to Saturday, I feel I really need to make sure the ones I have added get a bit of preseason into their legs.”
