Your chance to help shape town’s new youth zone

THE Grimsby Youth Zone is asking young people to get involved with the exciting new venture and choose their name and logo.

The state-of-the-art facility will offer young people a fun and safe place to go when it opens in the town centre in 2022.

It will offer dozens of activities, from football and climbing to drama and cooking - all for just 50p a night, and forms a key part of the £90m Grimsby Town Deal.

The development group, which is made up of young people from Grimsby, have selected two potential names for when it opens.

The centre could either be called the Horizon Youth Zone or the GY Youth Zone.

With the help of local design agency SourceFour, they have come up with corresponding logos which the public can vote on. Development Group member Rachel said: “We’ve done our bit now it’s time for you to do your bit. Let’s bring Grimsby back to being great! “Vote online to help choose the name for your Youth Zone.” Pictured are the two logos that have been designed.

The GY name references the town’s fishing heritage through the letters marked on every ship, with a striking design, while the Horizon logo incorporates the dock tower along with a rainbow of colour.

Voting is now open in schools and online for young people from across Grimsby to cast their vote and choose the winning name and logo.

Visit the Youth Zone’s website - www.onsideyouthzones.org/grimsbyvote - to have your say before October 23 when the poll closes.

The youth zone will be open to people aged eight to 19, and up to 25 for those with special needs, giving them a place to nurture their talents out of school. The site will bring top-of-therange facilities such as sports pitches and climbing walls.

The site which has been selected for it is the former West Haven Maltings and Migar House buildings, next to the River Freshney on Frederick Ward Way.

The project is being delivered in partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council, OnSide Youth Zones and the local business community. It follows 14 Youth Zones around the country, with young 50,000 members.
