The things that have made you smile amid the gloom of 2020

- By MARK PAGE mark.page@reachplc.com @markwpage

2020 hasn’t been a vintage year but many people around the Grimsby area have found plenty of reasons to be cheerful amid the gloom. Earlier this week, we asked readers on the Grimsby Live Facebook page to share the happier stories they have from the age of coronavirus and they’ve certainly made us smile.

While some are simply glad it’s “nearly over” – though, sadly, it looks like the pandemic will continue into 2021 along with the restrictions – there are others who will have some cheerful memories of this most unusual and tragic of years.

From lockdown babies to spending more time with family in weeks of beautiful weather, for many 2020 won’t just end up being remembered for face masks, restrictions and the tragedy of lives lost to the virus.

Among them is Heather Andrews who welcomed baby Thomas earlier this year. She said: “He’s five months now and it’s absolutely flown. He was born right in the middle of it so he has sure brightened it up!” Here are just a few of your other 2020 highlights that prove not everything has been awful!

As commenter Linda Parker put it: “Every day may not be a good day but there is something good in every day.”
