Starbucks opens in a fortnight

STARBUCKS aim to have their latest coffee shop open in Louth in two weeks.

The neighbouring McDonald’s development which is due to create 65 jobs will not be completed until February at the earliest.

But contractors building the Starbucks have gone full steam to have the coffee venue ready for next month, despite delays caused by the Covid lockdown.

Both venues on Louth Fairfield Industrial Estate’s Lincoln Way, were due to open in July, creating a combined total of 85 jobs.

A spokesman for the developers, GD Construction Service Ltd, said the lockdown had caused delays in the supply of materials.

“All going well, Starbucks will be ready in a couple of weeks. But McDonald’s will not be open for Christmas. It is looking more likely in February,” the spokesman said. The units needed for the 24-hour drive-thru cannot be delivered until the New Year. There was also a change in the designs approved last year. That change basically put the two outlets facing one another with Starbucks at the A16 end of the site and McDonald’s on the Lincoln Way end, with a large car park in the middle.

A massive water attenuation tank has been sunk under the car park. Access will be off Lincoln Way on the Fairfield Industrial Estate, next to the Shell garage and Spar shop. Ornamental trees will be planted to lessen the visual impact of the site. The car park will have 72 regular spaces and two electric vehicle charging bays, which will serve both the McDonald’s and the coffee shop. The applicant, Euro Garages, was given planning permission to build on the land off Lincoln Way, near to the A16, last year.
