A MEMBER of staff at Havelock Academy has tested positive for Covid-19.

All children and staff that have been in close contact with the staff member are now self-isolating. The zone and classrooms that the group were based in are also being deep cleaned as a further precautionary measure.

All students having to self-isolate at this time will be reverting back to virtual learning while they are at home.

This is the most recent case of many where either school staff or students have tested positive in North East Lincolnshire. On Wednesday, a small number of students at Caistor Yarborough Academy had to self-isolate after someone at the school tested positive for coronavirus.

As well as this, more than 78 pupils are currently in self-isolation at Tollbar and Cleethorpes Academies after four students and two teachers tested positive earlier this week. Havelock Academy is one of several schools in the area recommending that pupils and staff wear face masks when in public areas such as corridors.

The school have reassured parents that the safety of students and staff is their number one priority, and that all social distancing processes and practices are being followed.

A spokesperson for Havelock Academy said: “We can confirm that a member of staff has tested positive for Covid-19.

“In line with the DfE and PHE’s advice, all children and staff that have been in close contact are now self-isolating and return to school on October 20.

“A deep clean of the zone and classrooms that the group has been based in is also taking place as a further precautionary measure.

“In the meantime, we will revert to providing virtual learning for all pupils whilst they are at home, so that they can continue their learning.

“The safety of our pupils and staff is our number one priority and we have written to parents to inform them and to reassure them of our processes and practices.”
