THE number of people being treated in hospital for coronavirus across northern Lincolnshire has risen since Friday. Hospitals in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole are currently treating 27 people for covid across all three sites - a rise of six inpatients in four days. Two of the people currently being treated are in intensive care units, although it has not been confirmed whether they are using ventilators. The exact number for inpatients at each of the hospital sites has not been disclosed by The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.

It comes as public health officials have warned that more people are now being treated in hospital nationally than when the country first went into lockdown in March.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled a three-tiered Covid alert system on Monday, October 12 with North and North East Lincolnshire being placed in the lowest tier.

All of northern Lincolnshire is in the “medium” alert level - which means the current national measures of the

Rule of Six and the closure of pubs and restaurants at 10pm remains. Northern Lincolnshire saw a fall in Covid-19 cases on Monday after a surge in numbers last week.

Nine new cases were reported in North East Lincolnshire, taking the total to 619 confirmed infections. North Lincolnshire also saw a moderate decrease with 29 new cases reported for a total of 1,309 cases. It came after nearly 90 were reported in the previous 24 hours, and the rate of increase in the Grimsby area overtook Scunthorpe for the first time. The case rates for both areas are now over 100 per 100,000, the ‘red alert’ threshold.

Over the seven days up to October 10, official data shows that there have been nearly 400 cases across the region.

To date, 122 people have died in hospital across northern Lincolnshire from coronavirus.

Four of those passed away in September. There have been no coronavirus-linked deaths in hospitals so far in October. Liverpool City region is the only area facing the strictest lockdown measures, although there has been confusion on why certain areas have been categorised the way they have.
