TRAGEDY AS AREA’S 123RD COVID-19 HOSPITAL PATIENT DIES
THIRTY CURRENTLY RECEIVING CARE FOR VIRUS ACROSS REGION
A HOSPITAL patient tragically died of coronavirus in northern Lincolnshire on Tuesday.
The death, which was announced yesterday afternoon, is the 123rd in local hospitals since the start of the pandemic.
There are currently 30 coronavirus patients in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole hospitals - a rise of three since Tuesday.
Two of those patients are being treated in intensive care, although it has not been confirmed whether they are using ventilators.
The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust doesn’t release a breakdown of where deaths or admissions in its hospitals occurred. Despite a second wave of Covid-19 cases nationally and across the region, this is the first hospital fatality in two weeks. The last recorded previous death was on Wednesday, September 30. There were a total of four in September, and none in July or August. The pandemic’s death toll across the country increased by 97 yesterday. Dozens of new coronavirus cases are being announced across northern Lincolnshire every day, with almost 90 on Tuesday.
The areas have been placed in the lowest tier of the new Covid-alert, however public health officials have warned that the trajectories are moving in the wrong direction.
A map displayed in the government press conference on Monday showed cases in the area are continuing to rise quickly.
The dark brown regions, including northern Lincolnshire and much of the north, represent Covid cases accelerating.
There are fears that more areas will be added to Level Two in the coming weeks and face additional restrictions on movement and socialising.
The idea of a two-week ‘circuit breaker’ lockdown to put a halt to the rising cases has been suggested by scientists, but it’s not clear whether the government will pursue this. Schools continue to be disrupted by the virus, with children being asked to self-isolate after positive tests in classmates.
Nearly 500 children were sent home from Tollbar Academy on Tuesday and 126 St Lawrence Academy pupils are in self-isolation following cases in three year groups.
